Things are moving at a frantic pace here at High Revs Photography. No sooner have I come back from Watkins Glen that I find myself typing this in the Lime Rock Park Media Center for the ALMS Northeast Grand Prix! Before we get into the upcoming excitement this weekend lets first take a look back at the incredible Sahlen’s 6 hours of the Glen last weekend.
On and off rain throughout the event provided added challenges and some very unpredictable racing all weekend, but it also created some incredible photo ops with the wet track often being bathed in sunshine. My new Canon 70-200 2.8 lens performed fantastically to capture all the action in all different situations as it happened. All this rain isn’t to say that the racing suffered though, far from it. An exhausted Christian Fittipaldi took the overall honors despite the best efforts of Michael Valiente, while the Stevenson Camaro of John Edwards and Robin Liddell played the rain to perfection and came home with the win in GT. Watkins Glen has always been one of my favorite tracks in the world and this weekend only stood to reenforce that opinion. From the stunning views of Seneca Lake and the surrounding countryside, to the unbelievable elevation changes all around the 3.4 mile circuit, it really is an American road racing gem. I can’t wait to get back there for the NASCAR weekend in early August!
Looking ahead though, to say I’m looking forward to this coming weekend at Lime Rock Park would be a massive understatement. I’ve been coming to Lime Rock for this race since 2008 and at this point it feels more like home than any other track I go to all year. The addition of World Challenge and Lamborghini Super Trofeo to the on-track schedule should ensure an action packed weekend from start to finish. I’ve been lucky enough to acquire media credentials from the track and I hope to work with some teams throughout the weekend. By now I know the photographic in and outs of this track like the back of my hand, but this increased access should provide me with plenty of new angles and locations to take some seriously awesome pictures of these cars that I can share with you.
I’ll have another update sometime early next week when I get a chance to take a breath and process some of my pictures before I do it all again next weekend at the Honda Indy Toronto. For now, enjoy these pictures I’ve included with this post!
